Job Title: MedicalLaboratory Assistant
WORKING HOURS:
The candidate will maintain the following service hours to conductnormal day-to-day business: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday with amaximum of 40 hours per week. When necessary for contractor personnel to workhours other than 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, contractor mustcoordinate with the FRED. The contractor will coordinate with FRED on MDGtraining days/family if their services will be required. A lunch period is nota payable period but will be coordinated with the FRED.

DESCRIPTIONOF DUTIES:
Login/orderpatient lab tests
Issuecollection kits
Performphlebotomy of patients
Performsample processing which includes:
Centrifugation.
Pouringoff of samples into shipping tubes.
Platingmicrobiology samples.
Preparingsample shipments.
Perform/reviewwaived clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established operatinginstructions (OI), ensuring reporting of accurate results within establishedturnaround time.
Manageadministrative aspects of waived testing by ensuring compliance with routinequality control and preventative maintenance requirements.
Trackthe status and progress of work, making day-to-day adjustments in workassignments in accordance with established priorities, and obtaining assistancefrom the supervisory on irresolvable issues as necessary.
Maintainrecords of work accomplished, time expended, prepare/review reports asrequired, contact reference labs and patients as needed.
Consultwith other medical staff members to determine their requirements for effectivepatient care.
ReviewOI annually/within 30 days of new procedures being implements.
Conduct/Documentclinical laboratory training through on-the job training.
Complywith College of American Pathologist (CAP) standards.
Qualifications:
Phlebotomy Certification through a nationallyaccredited agency with at least 2 years of experience in performing phlebotomyservices to different types of patients included (but not limited to) children(8 months and older), adults, and Geriatric patients.
Current certification in Basic Life Support(BLS).
Language Requirements. The candidate performing services shall be proficient in understanding (reading,speaking, listening, and writing) English. They shall be capable of effectivelycommunicating with patients and MTF staff. Knowledge of medical terminology isrequired.
Orientation and Training:
Orientation. The candidate willensure that all contractor personnel participate in the Government providedMilitary treatment Facility (MTF) orientation program for newly assignedpersonnel within 30 business days of performance start. Orientation trainingwill be conducted during normal hours of operation and will be coordinated withthe assigned Functional Representative Evaluator Designee (FRED). Orientationwill include training on regulations specific to the professional specialty,hospital, Air Force policy and procedures, instructions on automationprocessing, quality assurance policies, and other information systems as theyapply to the position.· General Training. The candidate shallbe responsible for ensuring personnel comply with health information privacyand security policies and procedures. The Government will provide training onGovernment provided forms and equipment, Air Force directives, and MTF policiesand procedures. Contractor personnel shall participate in continuing educationprograms to update and/or maintain skills and knowledge to meet annualrequirements.· ComputerTraining. candidate personnel who have any interaction with the MTF computersystems must receive training for the applicable system(s). The FRED willcoordinate the necessary computer training. The training will be on-site andduring normal hours of operation. This training will be at no cost to theContractor. Access to patient data systems is an “Automated DataProcessing Sensitive” position requiring compliance with AFI 31-501,Personnel Security Program Management.
The Government will provide training on thefollowing:

4.Laboratorywaived testing methods
5.CustomerService (Trusted Care)
6.Useof medical & non-medical equipment· The Government will provide the following 18 MDG initial and ongoing training:
1.NewcomersOrientation (Initial)
2.MedicalFacility/Air Force Unique Training (Ongoing)
3.SecurityTraining (Ongoing)
4.MilitaryHealth System (MHS) Access to Care standards (Ongoing)
5.SectionSpecific Safety Briefings (Ongoing)
6.ClinicSpecific Training (Ongoing)· TheGovernment will provide initial and ongoing training on 18 MDG appointingprotocol changes to the candidates. These trainings will be given on an asneeded basis.· Whenin-processing the MTF, candidates are required to provide proof ofimmunizations including, but not limited to: Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, andRubella (MMR); Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap); Tuberculosis; Varicella;and Influenza (annual requirement).
